PELVIC PAIN – WHY THINGS HURT

Pelvic pain is a very complex condition that can be acute (i.e. new) or chronic (i.e. you have had for more than three months), it can affect you anywhere in the pelvis area – front, back, sides and the base (your pelvic floor area).
The pain can be triggered by your bowels, your bladder, your period, touch, muscle tightness, increased physical activity, or sexual activity. Everyone is different and due to this everyone’s treatment is likely to be slightly different.
Hopefully you have gone to your pelvic floor physiotherapist to seek help for this condition and are not just ‘putting up with it’ (this is very common).
Part of your treatment will involve you physiotherapist teaching you about pain in detail – sometimes this can be difficult to understand as it is a complex thing to get your head around.
